After Breakfast at 08.30 AM, visit the Sigiriya. Sigiriya is the 5th Century ‘Fortress in the Sky,” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the fortress. Within its triple-moated defense, the huge rock rises almost to a sheer height of 500ft. On its summit are the foundations of what was once a great and sumptuous palace and gardens, complete with a swimming pool. On one of the stairways, the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of frescoes of life-sized damsels in all the freshness and delicacy of their original color. Located in the backwoods of the North Central Province is home to the famous Minneriya National Park that shelters some of the greatest wildlife treasures of this paradise isle. The park, nourished by an ancient man-made tank, provides shelter for troupes of toque monkeys and sambar deer as well as leopards, elephants, and bird flocks, including little cormorants and painted storks, to name a few.It is also renowned for the ‘Sixth Greatest Wildlife Spectacle of the World’ – the amazing phenomenon of the ‘Minneriya Elephant gathering.’ The best time to visit the park is during June – September, as the low water levels of the tank expose grass in the tank bed, which attracts herds of grazing animals. After breakfast, check out and proceed to Colombo. Colombo - A drive through the city will take you to the Fort and Pettah- the city's commercial area and tree-lined Colombo - 07 Cinnamon Gardens. Colombo 3, 4, 5, 8 are the prime residential area of the city. Visit Fort, and Pettah for Shopping. The Hindu Temple at Sea Street, lined with goldsmith’s shops, the Dutch Church at Wolfendale, dating back to 1749.
